Big Peace

Ben Shapiro

Today, the National Journal reported that a senior State Department official has announced, “The war on terror is over.”

“Now that we have killed most of al Qaida,” the source said, “now that people have come to see legitimate means of expression, people who once might have gone into al Qaida see an opportunity for a legitimate Islamism.”

The article itself describes the Obama administration’s new vision of foreign policy, which admits no enemies. Everyone, in this view, is a friend. Islamism, says the Obama administration, is just fine, so long as it does not openly support terrorism.

This, of course, is utter foolishness. Islamism is a religious ideological movement that brooks no real alternatives – so while the State Department proclaims “a legitimate Islamism,” it fails to acknowledge that Islamism, “legitimate” or not, is deeply intolerant of any other modes of expression. Not only that, but Islamism works hand-in-glove with terror groups around the world. Simply because a regime does not openly house al Qaida does not mean that the regime doesn’t support al Qaida; just because a regime pretends at democracy doesn’t mean that it has real democratic values.

Obama has created the brave new Middle East – a Middle East that assumes that every human heart has the desire to vote, but not to be truly free; a Middle East that oppresses women and gays and minorities, but pretends at liberalism; a Middle East that despises America but hides that hate behind a façade of multiculturalism, even as it disposes of its internal dissenters.

In what promises to be an enormous document dump, I have received the first in a series of DOJ bundles in response to my FOIA request filed close to a year ago. Specifically, I asked for "records relating to the meeting of the 'Monthly Outreach Meeting' with Muslim and Arab groups at the Civil Rights Division. Specifically, include lists of attendees at each monthly meeting, the agenda of each meeting and any minutes or summary prepared subsequent to each meeting. Please also specifically note the meetings at which the Attorney General of the United States attended."

The principal impact of reading through the material is the sheer bulk of it. Hundreds and hundreds of pages of emails, documenting nearly daily friendly contact, consultation, cooperation and collaboration between the DOJ and Hamas-linked Muslim Brotherhood groups. One thing is clear, the Muslim Brotherhood has fully infiltrated command and control at the Department of Justice civil rights division.

Air force kills rocket squad, but shooters flee in West Bank ambush

The Jewish Press

Jan. 22, 2012

Soldiers shot an axe-wielding Palestinian man at an army roadblock outside Kalandiya, in the West Bank, on Sunday morning. When the man pulled the weapon from his bag and started advancing toward the soldiers, they ordered him to stop and drop the axe. When he didn’t, they shot him in the leg. The man was taken to hospital in Jerusalem for treatment.
A similar attack took place the night before, when a Palestinian teen stabbed a border policeman at a roadblock north of Jerusalem and ran away.

On Saturday morning, two terrorists who had launched a rocket at Israel from Rafiah, in the southern Gaza Strip, were killed seconds later when an Israeli jet fired on them. The Popular Resistance Committees claimed responsibility for the rocket launching squad.

It was the fourth attack from Gaza in three days – a sharp rise in violence after a three-month lull in fighting – that included more rockets and an infiltration attempt at the border with Israel.

In another attack on Saturday, in the West Bank, gunmen fired on an army convoy during a routine patrol near Ramallah. Soldiers were unharmed, but were also unable to apprehend their assailants, the IDF Spokesman’s Office said.

"Kuwait: The prince's mysterious conversion," by Marco Tosatti for Vatican Insider, January 16 (thanks to Jerry Newcombe):

According to reports, a Kuwaiti royal prince has become a follower of Jesus Christ. In an audio file posted with his name, he affirms that if he is killed because of a recording he made where he talks about his conversion, he firmly believes that he will meet Jesus Christ face-to-face. The news comes from Middle Eastern sources which state that al-Haqiqa – a Christian satellite TV channel in Arabic that transmits Christian religious programmes – broadcast an audio file attributed to the Kuwaiti prince, identified as Abdullah al-Sabah. The al-Sabahs are the royal family of Kuwait, a country rich in oil. The name Abdullah (servant of God) frequently appears in the Emir’s family tree.

In his audio file, Abdullah declared: “First of all, I fully agree with the distribution of this audio file and I now declare that if they kill me because of it, then I will appear before Jesus Christ and be with him for all eternity.” In this statement, the prince demonstrates his awareness of the fate in store for a martyr of the faith, according to Christian doctrine. The television channel stated that Abdullah is a member of the royal family, and that he recently renounced his faith in Islam and became a Christian, without specifying which particular branch of Christianity he had chosen. After stating his full name, the prince declared: “I will accept whatever they do to me, because the truth in the Bible has guided me towards the right path.”

The Western World’s optimism over the “Arab Spring” is fading. It is becoming increasingly clear that Islam, not democracy, will be the winner. And in the effected countries, it is rapidly turning into a “Christian Winter.”

Military response to Islam in Iraq and Afghanistan, has only succeeded in eliminating what Christian influence there was. Under Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi government more or less guaranteed the safety of a “Christian” population that was figured at about one million. Now, about half of these have fled the country as the war allowed Islamic radicals to target them.

Before the uprisings in Egypt, 10 percent of the population claimed Christianity. But with a Muslim majority, the “democratic” elections are building a new government that is Muslim dominated and determined to install Islamic law which forbids all Christian activities.

In Bethlehem this Christmas, tourists were welcomed because of their money, but for a town that was nearly 100% “Christian” just a few decades ago, it now has a Muslim majority. Unfortunately, Bethlehem is not under Israeli control but is part of the Arab “West Bank,” thus explaining the loss of Christian inhabitants.

The Islamist terror group Boko Haram’s escalating war against Christians and a violent nationwide protest against the end to government fuel subsidies have brought Nigeria to the edge of civil war.

Boko Harem began its current escalation with the Christmas Day suicide bombing of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Niger state, an attack which killed over 50 people.

The bombing of St. Theresa induced Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on December 31 to place the Muslim-dominant northern Nigerian states of Borno, Yobe, Niger and Plateau — areas that have been witness to most of Boko Haram’s attacks — under emergency rule.

For its part, Boko Harem responded to the emergency declaration by issuing a 3-day ultimatum to southern Christians living in the north of Nigeria to leave. When the ultimatum’s deadline expired, Boko Harem members subsequently killed over 60 Christians in gun and bomb attacks.

In the process, a Boko Haram spokesman let it be known that the Islamist group’s deadly reach wasn’t confined to a specific geographic region, saying, “We can really go to wherever we want to go.”

To prove that point, most of the killings took place in locations not placed under emergency rule, murders which included more than 30 Christians gunned down at two church services in Adamawa state and six people killed during a church service in Gombe state.

At the same time it was engaged in its Christian killing spree, Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the assassination of Modu Bintube, a member of parliament from Borno state; opened fire on customers at a local beer hall in Yobe state, killing eight civilians and four policemen; detonated bombs at a police station in Gombe state; and attacked a police headquarters and robbed and burnt two banks in Yobe state.

Nevertheless, Nigerian General Onyeabor Ihejirika claimed that Nigerian security forces and counter-terrorism units had brought the security situation in the north “under control.”

Of course, Christians may be skeptical about the Nigerian government’s ability to protect them from the Islamist killers, given that in 2011 alone Boko Haram murdered over 500 people, most of whom were Nigerian Christians, including over 130 who were killed in one attack in November 2011 in the northeastern Nigerian city of Damaturu.

Moreover, Boko Haram doesn’t seem to be losing its appetite for waging jihad. That fervor was on display recently when Boko Haram leader, Imam Abubakar Shekau, declared in his first ever televised appearance that Boko Haram was “at war with Christians” and that its fighters “will continue to kill and are ready and willing to be killed themselves as martyrs.”

So, given all that, it wasn’t too surprising then to hear Nigeria’s Christian leadership no longer willing to turn the other cheek to Boko Haram’s genocidal activities. That resolve was issued by Ayo Oritsejafor, head of the Christian Association of Nigeria, who called the killing of Christians by Boko Harem “systematic ethnic and religious cleansing.”

As such, Oritsejafor urged his followers to “do whatever it takes” to defend themselves against “these senseless killings,” adding, “We have the legitimate right to defend ourselves.”

Obama has recruited the annihilationist leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Sheik Qaradawi,  to negotiate with the heinous Taliban. That's like FDR reaching out to Hitler. Today the NY Times is reporting that the Obama administration has begun to reverse decades of US policy as it "seeks to forge closer ties with an organization once viewed as irreconcilably opposed to United States interests." What US interests? Freedom and human rights. Individual rights, equal rights under the law, freedom to worship, freedom of speech, freedom from genocide, Jew-hatred, and misogyny ....... this is unbelievable. If given a second term, Obama might offer to manufacture the ovens and sell it here as a jobs bill.

The administration’s overtures — including high-level meetings in recent weeks — constitute a historic shift in a foreign policy held by successive American administrations that steadfastly supported the autocratic government of President Hosni Mubarak in part out of concern for the Brotherhood’s Islamist ideology and historic ties to militants.

DF opines, "It’s rare that I link to the New York Times, but that story is worth reading today if only between the lines. Undeterred by the colossal failure of his Iran “engagement” policy, Obama is doubling down on another radical Islamist organization, the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, adding that to the Taliban in Afghanistan. I doubt the NYT’s editors wanted the piece to read this way, but even they can’t hide the fact that it’s becoming clearer to everyone (but liberals) that Obama is leading America on a dangerous path - and in November we must take our country back."
